For Fun

Workout and a Movie

The golden age of movies is gone forever when acting, not special effects drove people to the movies and made them special.  Like other things in life change is the one true constant and Hollywood is no exception. While today’s movies are filled with incredible special effects they are vastly different from their predecessors but one thing that has not changed is a really good movie will get your heart rate up and your blood pumping.
Hollywood has given us some good movies that have a fitness element to them. Chariots of Fire displayed endurance athletes while Rocky and 300 showcased Sylvester Stallone and Gerard Butler as physical beasts.  Who can forget Kevin Bacon in American Flyer where he raced bicycles?  So you see, by working out you are in some respects not that far removed from the movie stars we all love!
Its now May and you all have been working very hard to get into shape so it’s time to have a little fun. As we know Mother Nature can throw us a curve ball now and again and relegate our workouts to the treadmill or stationary bicycle which can be boring on the best of days. In order to help you get them most out of those indoor workouts, below are five of my favorite workout movies that get the blood pumping and make the hours and miles fly by.
Predators
Staring Adrien Brody, Predators is full of heat pumping action. Predators has two incredible scenes. First two Predators (a smaller one and large one) battle to the death followed by the closing scene where a ripped Adrien Brody takes down the Predator in a good old fashioned mono a mono battle.
Taken
Liam Neeson is a former CIA operative, who upon learning that his daughter has been captured and taken hostage single handedly goes on a tail kicking rampage throughout Europe to rescue his daughter and bring his own form of justice on those responsible.  Taken has chase scenes, physical duals and the physical bravado that only Neeson can do. I mean who cannot like a 50+ man that can rid Europe of most of the bad guys in less than three days?
Battleship
Fighting off Aliens is always good to raise the heart rate and Battleship does just that. The special effects are amazing and the fight scenes with the Aliens, along with some excellent tracks from ACDC make this a must for your workout list.
Quantum of Solace
Ok, anything with Daniel Craig is good as he has definitely kept himself in shape at age 45.  In his first appearance as Bond, Craig displays incredible physical presence as the fight scenes are incredible and he has enough of a rough edge to keep you wanting more.

Alien vs. Predator
Stuck in a battle between Aliens and the Predators, the Predator and one sole human survivor (Alexa Wood) must team up to survive.  Having just killed an alien, my favorite scene is the Predator and Alexa Wood running into battle together to finish off the Aliens.  Ladies, take note, Alexa Wood earned the trust of the Predators by killing three Aliens herself. Look at what working out can do for you!
Chris is a Certified Personal Trainer and Groups Exercise Instructor, exercise, health and endurance enthusiast.  He competes yearly in numerous running races, marathons, ultra marathons, triathlons and other endurance events.
